The production of industrial hemp was made illegal by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. And it wasn’t until the 2018 Farm Bill that industrial hemp was defined as an agricultural commodity and legalized. Because this once popular crop was banned for almost 50 years, there is a large gap in industrial hemp knowledge especially when it comes to THC.
Here at Green Fox Companies, we are proud producers of industrial Hemp because of it’s nutritional and environmental benefits. Which is why we are debunking one of our most frequently asked questions, “Can I get high from industrial hemp?”
Here are the reasons why you will not get high from industrial hemp and everything you need to know about THC, legalities, and federal regulations.
For industrial hemp to be legal, it must be within the federal regulations and contain less than 0.3% THC. This level of THC is too low to produce any psychoactive effects or a “high”. Where marijuana typically has a THC concentration of 15%. Marijuana is still illegal at the federal level, but many states have legalized it for medical and recreational use.
Industrial hemp’s THC levels are heavily regulated and monitored to ensure that they stay under 0.3%. Hemp plants undergo testing while they grow in the field, 30 days before harvest, and after they are harvested. If they are under the 0.3% THC level, they are deemed compliant and cleared for production.
Another misconception that’s created when talking about hemp, marijuana, and THC is that you’ll also get high from CBD. While CBD and THC are both compounds in cannabis, THC is the only compound that has psychoactive effects. CBD does not have any psychoactive effects meaning you can’t get “high”.
So, what is CBD used for then? CBD is often used for pain relief, relaxation and improved sleep, inflammation reduction, and anxiety and stress relief. CBD products have the same federal regulations that industrial hemp products have, these must contain less than 0.3% THC to be legal.
No, we do not produce any THC or CBD products here at Green Fox. Our industrial hemp does not contain high enough THC levels to produce psychoactive effects, and we only grow industrial hemp for consumption or industrial use.
CBD is typically extracted from the hemp plants flowers or leaves and the extraction process is extensive. Instead of taking the leaves for extraction, we leave them in our fields after harvest! Why? Hemp leaves help regenerate soil by protecting it from harsh winters, by sequestering carbon, and helping with drainage.
