Industrial Hemp: Sustainable by Nature, Zero-Waste by Design

Written by Trinity Wold | Oct 1, 2025 6:35:13 PM

Hemp is a powerhouse plant with each part, from its roots to its leaves, having a different purpose in environment sustainability and goods production. And here at Green Fox Companies, we harness 100% of the industrial hemp plant to regenerate soil, reduce waste, and create nutritional goods and plant-friendly products.

See how together with Rookie Farmers, we use the stalk, seeds, leaves, and roots of every hemp plant grown right here in Minnesota for our expanding line of goods and products.

Hemp Stalk: The Industrial Powerhouse

From building and construction projects to stalls and garden beds, hemp’s stalk is one hard-working hero. From farm field to finished product, here are four ways Green Fox is growing sustainable solutions from the ground up.

1. Hemp Hurd (Shiv)

The woody center of the hemp plant makes cozy, healthier Hemp Hurd animal bedding, energy efficient and all-natural concrete (hempcrete), and even serves as a boost to any garden’s soil.

2. Hemp Insulation

Green Fox’s Hemp Insulation keeps homes comfortable without the mass-produced chemicals thanks to the hemp stalk’s breathable, mold-resistant qualities. Our Hemp Insulation is also plant-friendly and has superior acoustics.

3. Hemp Acoustic Panels

We also use hemp stalk to produce free-of-foam acoustic paneling for natural, sustainable soundproofing.

4. Hemp Erosion Control Products

The biodegradable Green Fox Erosion Control Sock is perfect for environmentally sensitive areas with a “leave no trace” approach or for every-day sustainable landscaping, erosion, and sediment control.

Hemp Seeds: small but mighty

While they may be small, hemp seeds are packed with nutrients and are a leader in innovation and sustainability. From the snacks in your pantry to sustainable soil systems, Green Fox uses hemp seeds to grow more than just food!

1. Hemp Hearts

We utilize the soft, nutty center of the hemp seed to produce our most popular farm-to-table superfood: Hemp Hearts. Green Fox’s Hemp Hearts are packed with protein, omegas, and crunch! Sprinkle, blend, bake, or add to any dish for a powerful, nutrient-rich meal.

2. Hemp Seed Oil

Another farm-to-table good that comes from hemp seeds? Hemp Seed Oil. Green Fox’s Hemp Seed Oil is cold-pressed and rich in healthy omegas making it the perfect addition to dips, drizzles, everyday cooking, and even skin care.

3. Hemp Cake

After pressing the hemp seeds, what’s left behind is called Hemp Cake. Hemp Cake is ideal for high-protein animal feed, compost piles, and regenerative soil systems.

4. Hemp Hulls

Hemp seeds have an outer shell called the hull. Hemp Hulls are rich in antioxidants and fiber perfect for animal feed or supplements. Hemp Hulls can also be used in garden soil, pet bedding, and creative crafting.

Hemp Leaves: Green and Functional

The leaves from the hemp plants grown in our local Rookie Farmers fields don’t make it into any Green Fox bottles or bags because we leave them right where they fall – in the field.

The hemp leaves help give back to the earth, and that’s the kind of farming we believe in. Here’s what happens each season after hemp harvest:

1. Leaves Left After Harvest

Even though we don’t take the hemp leaves after harvest, it’s not a waste. These leaves keep the soil in our fields healthy.

2. Erosion Reduced

The hemp leaves act as a natural mulch blanket and help protect the soil from wind and water in Minnesota’s Fall and Winter months.

3. Valuable Nutrients Added

As the hemp leaves break down, they return key nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur back into the soil to support future plant growth.

4. Soil Life is Fed

Not only do the hemp leaves provide the soil compounds with nutrients, they also serve as food for the microorganisms living underneath the ground. Which means the soil is kept rich, alive, and active.

Hemp Roots: The Underground Heros

Below the surface, hemp roots do some serious regenerative work. The roots dig deep into the ground to naturally heal, nurture, and strengthen the soil. Which is one of the main reasons why we chose to grow hemp in the first place! Here is everything hemp’s roots are doing in the background:

  1. Remediates Soil The roots pull up toxins, cleaning the soil.
  2. Controls Erosion – Deep roots anchor the soil, keeping it in place.
  3. Conserves Water – Roots minimize irrigation needs by boosting water retention.
  4. Promotes Biodiversity – Habitat for microbes, fungi, and insects is created.
  5. Improves Soil Structure – Compacted soil is loosened for long-term health.
  6. Captures and Stores Carbon – Hemp sequesters carbon into the ground and not the air.

Why industrial Hemp?

We know hemp is a hot topic. The misconceptions and lack of education around hemp leave a lot of people asking, “Why hemp?” We’ll tell you.

We proudly process hemp as part of our commitment to sustainable agriculture, and carbon sequestration. Hemp is a low-impact, highly versatile crop that:

  • Absorbs and stores carbon dioxide from the atmospher
  • Improves soil health through regeneration
  • Requires fewer resources, like water, than traditional crops
  • Supports zero-waste and eco-friendly products

100% of the hemp plant contributes to climate stabilization and the reduction of greenhouse gases while supporting a circular, sustainable economy, healthier people, and greener communities.
